Craig Schaurer, CPA

Craig Schaurer is a Tax Partner and Managing Partner at Atherton & Associates, where he leads with a dual focus on technical tax expertise and firm-wide strategic direction. With nearly two decades of experience in public accounting, he primarily advises closely held businesses—particularly within the agribusiness sector—on complex tax compliance and forward-looking planning strategies.

His work centers on helping clients navigate the full lifecycle of their businesses. From income tax compliance and planning to business structuring, estate planning, and succession strategies, he brings a practical, solutions-oriented perspective to every engagement. He is frequently sought out for guidance on high-level matters such as transaction advisory, long-term tax strategy, and ownership transitions, serving as a trusted primary advisor.

Technical experience includes IC-DISC and cooperative taxation, along with cash flow modeling and income projections that support informed decision-making. He works extensively with clients in the agriculture, food and beverage, and real estate industries, delivering proactive, coordinated tax strategies aligned with long-term business goals.

As Managing Partner and a member of the firm’s Strategic Leadership Group, he plays a key role in shaping Atherton’s direction and reinforcing its commitment to client service, technical excellence, and long-term relationships.
